1919-1939 The S. Konarski State Schol No 2 in Łuków was founded in 1919. Students learnt in a rented building in 11th November Street. J.Szlendak became headmaster. Only 157 children could learn because there was no place for rest. Because the number of students rose each year, new buildings and classrooms had to be rented. Students studied at 3 levels until 1927/28 and at 7 levels after that. They attended school 6 days a week until 1934/35. They enrolled the Father S.Brzóska Scouts, organized excursions and attended interest groups. Owing to lack of money for school children gave a performance called "The happiest of sisters" by E.Szelburg. The greatest problem was that the school was located in different parts of the town. The school was inspected four times from 1935 to 1939. It organized cultural life, celebrated the 10th anniversany of gaining independence, Nowember uprising, the 3rd May and so on.
1939-1945 J.Cetnarski was the headmaster of the school. There were 7 teachers. The invaders destroyed libraries, maps, pictures and prohibited associations and newspapers. Teaching history and geography of Poland as well as some pieces of Polish literature
were forbidden. Children went to school irregularly
because of illnesses, lack of fuel and arrests of teachers.
When a lot of teachers were dismissed, they organized
under ground tuition.
1945-1999 After the war nearly all the school buildings were destroyed. A lack of school-books, flu and measles epidemics
resulted in low teaching results in school year 1948/49. Russian was obligatory from 1949. In the next few years in spite of the difficlut work conditions the school
started to achieve good teaching results. A law concerning on 8-year-primary school was passed in July 1961. After the death of J.Cetnarski, E.Mazurkiewicz became headmaster.
